    Chrysa's first egg

I've been trying for years with no success.
At last! My lady canary Chrysa made the difference.
Since this time of the year is good for breeding canaries, I put her in the breeding cage with Stamatis (my good old male).
I was glad to see the first egg. That means that in two weeks -if everything goes well- the chick will arrive
At the same time my baby lovies grow up almost at the size of their parents. There's so much happiness in my bedroom with all these births!

    Four eggs is the limit

Chrysa seems to do the right job so far. She's always in the nest. For one moment she got up and I had the chance to take a shot of the new eggs.
It seems that four eggs is her limit for this clutch.
Lets see if they will al hatch. We will know in less than two weeks.

That is so cool! Your canaries are beautiful! Does Dad sing a lot?

So is the canary gestation time the same as a lovebird? 23-25 days?

    Thank you all

Once the singing of male canaries aims to attract females, by the moment one male is put in the same cage with a female, the song stops.
It's even difficult the most times, after the whole period of breeding, bringing up the chicks and then separating the male from the female, to have the male singing again. In most cases the male is exhausted and/or forgot how to sing.
As for the gestation period of canaries is about 14 days. So, in about a week -if lucky- I'll have the first chick hatching!!!

Awwww, they stop singing? It is such a pretty sound.

14 days......that is quick. Can't wait to see the little ones!

Yes, that's the side-effect when breeding canaries. Unfortunately the male stops singing but I prefer having a mute male with many offspring than a lonely singer. I find it brutal to keep a male alone just to keep you amused.
I'll keep you informed about anything new.

    The first clutch was infertile
Unexpectedly, Chrysa started laying new eggs approximately a month after I removed the empty eggs. I wasn't expecting this so soon
According to my calculations, this clutch will start hatching at the first days of February.
Maybe I'll be lucky this time...
