Lost Bird... what about it's partner?

One of my lovebirds got loose out of it's cage last night. I doubt it'll come back. My question is... what about it's partner? They were bought in a pair by their previous owner and have been living together for maybe 2 years. It's been looking around expectantly like the other bird will magically appear back in it's cage and it's a really sad sight.

Have you tried putting the cage outside so the remaining bird can call out to the lost bird...you never know, it may come back because it may be around your area still.

Also don't give up just yet...maybe you can post "lost bird" signs around your neighborhood or take out a lost bird ad in the local newspaper.

Re: Lost Bird... what about it's partner?

We have put the other bird out so it can call, for two days, and we will again today. But now I'm starting to get worried about the bird I still have because it's droppings have changed from brownish green to bright green and it is sitting with puffed feathers on it's perch. There aren't any avian vets around me but I will call the normal vet and see what I can do.
ps. I haven't given up hope about the other bird being found or coming back, I'm just really worried about this one.

Sorry to hear you lost your little bird and the other bird is unwell also, keep him warm and try putting some millet spray in his cage to keep his appitite up, and let us know what the vet says, best of luck.

Make sure she is not egg bound. Put some mineral oil on her vent. Is she swollen?

So sorry to hear about your bird escaping. I hope you find it soon and that the remaining bird perks up.

i had budgies before my love bird, one day i left a window slightly open for fresh air (i smoke) and the wind blew it open a tad more which was enough to let one of birds escape.
i had some explaining to do to my girlfriends 5 year old son.
i gave him the choice, we can either let the birds be free and they may escape or come to some other harm or i can put the doors back on their cages and we can lock them up where they'll be miserable but at least they'll be safe.
he said without hesitation...let them be free.
so to me if you giving your bird freedom sometimes backfires youre still doing the right thing.
and the right thing cant be wrong..
good luck i hope the litle fella finds his way home.

I am going through the exact same thing right now. I'm really concerned about Pretty Girl. She doesn't seem sick but I can tell she is missing him. It has really taken a toll on me too. I feel so guilty.

I know what you are going through. Good luck.

I would get him a partner. How are things going now?
