I got him today, and he does try to run, but if you can get him on your finger he seems some what content on being there, in other words he won’t try and get off of it.
I read somewhere that birds will feel less threatened when you look at them, and close your eyes for a few seconds, (longer than a blink.) and when I seem to... [Read More]

crack in her beak |
|
Oct 07, 2008 - 5:00 AM - by wraith3@sympatico.ca
|
I recently received two lovebirds as a gift.
I have noticed that my female lovebird has what appears to be a small crack in her beak.
She also has a black/brown discoloured area on one side of her beak and not the other. Her beak is a light pink and I am wondering if I should be concerned or perhaps take her to the vet to be checked out?
Thank you,
Shel

I have babies for the first time with any of my birds. All the books that I have read on lovebirds says NO GRIT they don't need it and it is actually harmful to them. But when i contacted a local petshop that breeds his own birds says i musy give them grit. HELP! I'm not trying to breed, birds were abandoned because female is very aggressive and I took them figured I would at least give them abetter home. The previous owner was scared of her and neglected her. It would be nice to something nice... [Read More]

Question about beak ? |
|
Oct 06, 2008 - 7:26 AM - by FredJ

PeachyBoy is a male lovebird which we have had for about 5 years. He has never been in contact with any other birds since we have owned him. The other day I noticed that his upper beak has a hairline crack that runs horizontally accross it. (not from the tip to the eyes, but accross like in the direction of eye to eye) The crack is near the very end where the upper beak curves down over the lower beak and is located about 1/8" (3mm) up from the very tip.
The beak seems slightly... [Read More]

First baby didn't make it |

Today I looked in the nest expecting to see a new baby, and instead I saw a half-open shell with a baby inside but not moving. For some reason it didn't make it. So sorry... it must have had a problem with pipping. The mom just stopped doing anything for it. By the time I found it, I couldn't do anything to help. There is plenty of moisture in the room and in the cage. So now there are four eggs left.

Mutation? |

When I bought this bird in Feb. it was supposed to be an Aqua Pied egg laying hen. It has been doing the tango with my DD Aqua? hen so we will see. My question is it wasn't in very good feather when I bought it, they said it was moulting. It's flight feathers are white so is it something besides just Aqua Pied? First pic is about a month after I got it and the second I took today. How do you tell a DD Aqua from a DD Turquoise? I'm not sure which my hen is.
